More than two months since it was revealed that was in negotiations for one of the leading roles in Marvel Studios’ movie, we still haven’t received an official confirmation from the blockbuster studio regarding the project’s final cast.
However, it seems like fans finally have the answer to Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards casting thanks to SAG-AFTRA’s latest career profile on the Emmy winner. According to SAG-AFTRA Foundation, The Last of Us actor’s next project to film will be the long-awaited Fantastic Four movie, confirming that Pascal has indeed signed on to become the MCU’s Mr. Fantastic.
At the moment, the Game of Thrones vet is one of the busiest men in Hollywood, as he’s currently attached to multiple high-profile projects. Besides the Fantastic Four, he will next be seen in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 and Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. He will also be reprising his acclaimed role as Joel Miller in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2.
Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four will be directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman from a screenplay being rewritten by Josh Friedman based on a draft from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. The project was first teased by Kevin Feige during 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con. Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was originally slated to direct, but decided to drop out in order to take a break from the superhero genre.
Official casting for the film hasn’t been announced yet, but The Office alum John Krasinski made his debut as a variant of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Before Pascal’s casting, Adam Driver, Matt Smith, and Jake Gyllenhaal were reportedly the actors that Marvel considered for Mr. Fantastic.
The film premieres on May 2, 2025, as part of the MCU’s Phase 6.
