Yesterday, we learned that campaign progress in Arkane's new co-op game, Redfall, will only be made by the host of the session. If you're dropping in to help a friend out or want to play along with them, you'll still earn XP and loot, but no actual mission progress. Players aren't too happy about this.
Players took to ResetEra to discuss their thoughts on Redfall and other multiplayer games that lock progress to just the host. "Honestly this is BS and needs to stop," the creator of the thread, dex3108 wrote.

One of Redfall's developers, game designer Harvey Smith, explained that this feature has been implemented to avoid confusion. "The story would be very confusing if you got to mission eight and it said 'skip this one because you've already done it,'" Smith explains.
"Look at the Saints Row, you can play any mission with a friend and if your friend is far ahead of you and you finish late game mission with your friend, when you reach that point on your save you can skip mission or replay it because it will be marked as finished," dex3108 wrote.
Other players agreed that it seems like an odd decision, given that it is possible to simply offer players a prompt to either replay or skip already completed missions. "Yeah its fucking annoying," wrote bryanee. "If the none host player carries on in their own game it should just ask if they want to skip a mission they have already done."
Some are speculating as to other reasons the devs may have chosen to implement this restriction. "Only reason I can think of is to try and encourage/force people to play through it multiple times," wrote FlanjeUK.
It's not a decision that's gone down well in the thread.
