The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade for Fallout 4 is here, with updates rolling out for Xbox and PC players and a new PS5 version of the game available as a free upgrade for owners on Sony’s console – sadly not for PS Plus subscribers.
The current gen upgrade brings a number of enhancements with some dedicated graphics and performance modes. Performance mode gives a 60 FPS target with 4K managed via upscaling and the game running at ‘standard’ settings. Meanwhile the Quality mode runs at 30 FPS with 4K and ultra settings, and should manage this without scaling – there is a hidden 40 FPS mode, where Quality mode targets 40 FPS when connected to a 120Hz diaplay. Finally, connecting to a 1440p display will run at 60 FPS with ultra settings.
Over on PC, the game has better ultra-widescreen support and has gained Steam Deck verification. It’s also now out on the Epic Game Store.
That’s the technical side of things, but Bethesda has also done a fresh pass of bug fixing for all platforms and released some new Creation Club content free for everyone. There’s new armour and weapon bundles, and a new ‘Echoes of the Past’ quest which you can find on the road north of Saugus Ironworks.
Here’s the full patch notes for Fallout 4 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S:

**Enclave Remnants **
Some say the past is a scar, cut across the skin of the Commonwealth. Others believe it’s a scab clotted over an unhealed wound. Those who fought the Enclave, and those who serve them subscribe to the latter. And when the scab is broken the flag of this old-world cabal will once more stand at full mast. Unless of course, you stop them first. Features the classic Enclave Colonel uniform and over a dozen workshop items! If you have other Enclave creations installed, some of these troops may use this equipment against you!
