Yesterday, it was reported that the long-anticipated Fable revival is going through something of an identity crisis. Apparently, the developers are "not quite sure" what it should be, although the term "Witcher-like" is being thrown around. And perhaps unsurprisingly, this is concerning fans.
Over in the Fable subreddit, many fans fear that the series could lose its identity with a Witcher-inspired sequel or reboot. Some are especially worried that this could mean that Fable will lose some of its iconic British charm, instead going for a wider appeal to reach a larger audience.

"I love The Witcher, but my gut reaction to this was not good," says Reddit user Crispy_87. "I hope they don't make the game as dark or realistic as Witcher."
Others agree, although not being as kind to Witcher as some fans. "The Witcher is a playable movie, I want a game," says cannibalzombies. "Fable has a simplicity that would be ruined if it's a Witcher clone."
Some, understandably, fear that Fable's cartoonish humour wouldn't translate well into a fantasy world that has a greater focus on realism, meaning it could perhaps be left behind. True enough, it's hard to imagine perfectly detailed and animated villagers putting up with a hero who runs around kicking chickens all day. And that's not to mention larger-than-life characters such as Reaver - how do they fit into a more grounded tale?
However, some fans wouldn't mind seeing Fable taking a few pages out of The Witcher's book in certain areas. From combat to world design, seeing some parts of Fable polished could let Albion shine.
