Expeditions: Rome has players following the footsteps of mighty Roman generals of the past as they conquered the Mediterranean. As they did, so to will the player in sweeping campaigns across a sizable world map.
Rome, of course, wasn't built in a day, and neither are wars. In Expeditions: Rome, players will need to lead large armies across the campaign map in addition to their own party in order to conquer territory and gain access to more resources. One of the largest obstacles to these conquests will of course be the armies met along the way, but the player will have many tools at hand to deal with these threats.

The first and most important part of any legion is the commander. Players can choose from a selection of commanders at a barracks, which is marked with a tent icon when in a player controlled camp. The player will have access to four commanders at a time, and once one is purchased, it will be replaced with a new one with different stats. It is advised to have multiple commanders in a wide variety of roles and skills in order to maintain flexibility on the battlefield.
Once the player has their commanders, they are free to challenge armies out in the world, whether that be through sieges or encounters across the battle map. Once a player is in a Legion Battle, they will need to choose from a selection of Stratagems to gain the upper hand on their opponent.
Stratagems are selected randomly from a deck, and the player gets to choose from three of them. The player can unlock more Stratagems at the player camp if their tactics start to feel like they are getting stale.
