Runes are the core of Elden Ring, giving Tarnished players the strength they need to carry out their quest for the Elden Ring. Like Dark Souls’ Souls and Bloodborne’s Blood Echoes, Elden Ring’s Runes allow players to level up and take on the toughest enemies in the Lands Between. Fortunately for the Tarnished, there are some great Rune farming locations and techniques in every area of the map that makes leveling up easy no matter what level they’re at.
There are five major areas that players can explore in Elden Ring’s open world, though some are much more difficult to traverse than others. After starting the game in Limgrave, players can venture to Liurnia, Caelid, Altus Plateau, and the Mountaintops of the Giants throughout their journey. As players progress through the game, the enemies will get harder and harder to beat, but they’ll also drop a lot more Runes than the weaker enemies that appear early on.

Elden Ring players can visit any of the many Sites of Grace to channel their Runes and level up. However, Runes are also required to purchase crucial items like materials, armor, cookbooks, and upgrades. Needless to say, Elden Ring players will always be in need of more Runes, but luckily, there are plenty of places to farm a ton of them in a short amount of time.
Limgrave is the first area of the Lands Between that Elden Ring players can explore, and there’s a great early-game Rune farming location just south of the Warmaster’s Shack Site of Grace.
