A new Wild Area update for Pokémon Sword and Shield is focusing on fossil Pokémon in Max Raid battles, with higher chances of encountering a Shiny Tyrantrum. While many Pokémon fans are currently busy Shiny hunting in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Raid events in Pokémon Sword and Shield have continued, allowing fans of Galar to keep enjoying gameplay. The fossil Pokémon appearing during the March Wild Area event could be a great opportunity to catch a powerful dinosaur-themed Pokémon.
The Wild Area news for Pokémon Sword and Shield has been mixed in past months, with many raid spotlights focusing on Pokémon that have already been featured, or that aren't very hard to come by. During the Pokémon Day 2022 Wild Area event, many were disappointed by the announcement of Kanto starters again appearing with higher frequency around the Galar region's Raid Dens. Because there are so many wonderful Pokémon in Sword and Shield, the decision to feature other species like fossil types is both refreshing and exciting, and may hint at further uniquely themed Wild Area events in the months to come.

According to the Pokémon website, the fossil-themed Max Raids will be active until 4:59 PM PDT on March 27, 2022. Carracosta, Archeops, Tyrantrum, and Aurorus will all appear more frequently in the Raid Dens scattered through the primary Wild Area and DLC maps for The Crown Tundra and The Isle of Armor. It has also been confirmed that Tyrantrum will have boosted Shiny odds, giving players a better chance of finding one while participating in the event.
