It may seem at first that Superman is stuck in limbo, but there are actually a few projects centered around the Man of Steel currently happening. For a character as important to the world of comic books and pop culture in general, there is indeed a lack of Superman movies and shows, especially when compared to Batman and even previously lesser-known heroes from DC and Marvel. Nailing what should be the pinnacle of the superhero ideal is not an easy task, which helps explain why Superman projects often take longer than the usual to happen.
For example, after Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, the last of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, it took 19 years for another live-action Superman movie to happen. Superman Returns, which was supposed to serve as a sequel to Superman II, had a budget of $204 million and did only $391 million at the box office, a clear sign that Superman was a challenging character, at least for the big screen. Sever years later, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel rebooted the character and brought Henry Cavill as Superman.

Cavill reprised his role inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, and he is currently the DCEU's version of Superman despite his lack of appearances. As Henry Cavill's future in the role gets uncertain, so does the future of DCEU's Superman.
