Warning: spoilers ahead for Dandadan chapter 52!
The incredible artistic prowess of mangaka Yukinobu Tatsu recently proved in Dandadan that great art can make even the most ridiculous moments in Shonen Jump series work.
The way Yukinobu Tatsu perfectly utilizes spreads at least once in every chapter to create absolutely breathtaking portals into the world of Dandadan is undeniable. The incredible attention to detail coupled with his awe-inspiring grip on realism (despite incorporating some of the wildest fantastical elements in manga) makes his artwork so moving that it even has the power of transforming moments that would be a drag in any other manga, as proved in chapter 52.

While some fans may disagree with the implication that any moment in Dandadan is less than inspired, the moment Hayashi performers arrive to assist in the exorcism of the Evil Eye yokai from Jiji is nothing short of a letdown. It was originally implied that the Hayashi group would reflect the more traditional depiction of the ancient Japanese artform. But they are revealed as members of a heavy metal band that not only strike utterly outrageous poses like the Ginyu Force in Dragon Ball Z, but whose singer dons attire that resembles their uniform. The band are the perfect ingredients for a forgettable chapter, but Yukinobu Tatsu's art stops that from being the case.
At first, what saves the installment is the immense care that mangaka Tatsu obviously put into each member of the heavy metal Hayashi band, automatically making them more appealing.
