Unsurprisingly, game software and hardware sales saw significant surges in the UK over the course of December, benefiting from the Holiday season and the increased sales it brings every year. As per data released by the GSD (via GamesIndustry), a total of 6.9 million physical and digital software units were sold in the region throughout the month, in addition to just under half a million consoles.
On the software front, EA Sports FC 24 was the best-selling game of the month, displacing November’s best-seller, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which dropped down to No. 2. Hogwarts Legacy and Super Mario Bros. Wonder both enjoyed notable sales increases for the month, coming in at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, while Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora debuted at No. 8.
On the hardware front, the PS5 was the best-selling console of the month in the UK, though its sales fell 19% compared to November. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch saw a 39% increase in sales from last month, while Xbox Series X/S enjoyed a 6% increase.
