Since 1995, the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been a staple of the gaming industry, allowing companies to connect with consumers in exciting ways — but with rumors that E3 2023 could be canceled, it seems that how companies choose to reveal new properties is changing. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, E3 has either been out of commission or held online for the past three years, and it was finally scheduled for a heroic return this June 13-15 in the Los Angeles Convention Center. But with rumors of E3 2023's cancelation seemingly on the horizon, its revival may have become a death sentence after all.
Things were looking up for E3 2023 initially, as last year, ESA announced they would be partnering with Reedpop to run the show. As an event production company, Reedpop has been responsible for hosting well-known and successful conventions in the past, including PAX and Comic Con. With a seemingly firm foundation behind the scenes, and excitement surrounding E3's first return to in-person in years, expectations were running quite high for gaming's most well-known event. Unfortunately, there's a strong possibility that E3 2023 could be canceled, and that it may all be for naught.

Although there is no confirmation that E3 2023 will be canceled yet, several significant publishers have already dropped out of the event, which strongly indicates that this may be the case. Earlier this year, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo each confirmed that they would not be purchasing a spot on the show floor, which hurt E3's reputation considerably.
