On Thursday, Haryana government launched the e-Adhigam scheme in Haryana. Under the e-Adhigam, or the Advance Digital Haryana Initiative of Government with Adaptive Modules, scheme around 3 lakh students were given free tablets to pursue online education with ease. The devices distributed come pre-loaded with content, personalized and adaptive learning software and 2GB free data. The students who received the tablets belonged to various government schools in class 10th and 12th. The scheme is being called ambitious due to its high expenditure and wide-impact nature. In the first round of distribution, the State government has chosen the target of providing tablets to 5 lakh students from classes 10th and 12th in Haryana.
Although the initial plan is to distribute the tablets to only class 10 and 12, the government has stated that class 11 students will also receive the free tablets after they clear the Class 10 board exams and qualify for the succeeding year. Chief Minister of the State Manohar Lal Khattar stated after launching the e-Adhigam scheme at Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak, "From next year, all classes from 9-12 will be covered”. This also indicates that the government plans a much bigger batch of distribution for the upcoming year.
"Tablets and data are tools for students which will help them acquire skills of the 21st century and open new opportunities. Through e-learning, students of Haryana will become global students," Khattar said.
