was one of the surprise announcements at The Game Awards, but the reveal didn’t come with any in-game footage. Shiro Games has been posting only short clips since, but the developer now has finally lifted the veil on the game, showing the strategy game in action.
The gameplay trailer is just under two minutes, but contains a voiceover explaining the general mechanics on the screen. Players have to survive the arid landscape and can convince local villages to fight for them or use violence to get their cooperation. These villages can then be used as outposts so players can start harvesting spice. These villages are just the first stepping stones for players as they can then build up their bases and go on to use politics, deception, or diplomacy to come out on top. However, it appears as though other factors can throw a wrench into the works, as the trailer ended on a sand worm coming up to feast.
It was only a brief overview of the game and, being a strategy title, there is still much to uncover, especially since it is slated to hit early access sometime this year. It will have at least five houses to play as, but only House Harkonnen and House Atreides have been revealed thus far, as was revealed in a recent FAQ. The video doesn’t go into the RTS or 4X elements, nor does it touch on the procedural map generation or exactly how the aforementioned systems work, but those answers will likely come later in 2022.
