For many, the promise of a game lasting upwards of 100 hours is no longer the selling point that it used to be. People who grew up with games may now find themselves with families or other responsibilities — and so, at least from what we see in comments sections and the like, there's a clear demand for shorter titles that offer more focused experiences.
You may be pleased to hear, then, that Dragon's Dogma 2 isn't going to offer some utterly colossal campaign. Despite being roughly four times the size of its predecessor in terms of the open world map, the main story itself is the same length as the one in Dragon's Dogma — or thereabouts.
This is according to director Hideaki Itsuno, via an interview with Game Informer. «For players that only focus on the things [to] go through the [game's campaign], the playtime itself shouldn't change that dramatically from the first game,» he explains.
At this point, it's worth noting that the original Dragon's Dogma is about 30-40 hours long — and that time can be drastically reduced upon repeat playthroughs, when you're more familiar with the game's structure.
However, for those who do want to stray from the main path, Itsuno says that a lot of effort has been put into optional objectives and exploration. «For the people that want to do everything, that see many things [...] we put a lot of effort into adding as many elements as possible for this. There's many things that could catch players' attention and for those people, they will probably find their playtime significantly longer.»

Robert's been a dedicated PlayStation fan since the days of Tekken 2, and he still loves a good dust up. When he's not practising combos, he's usually getting lost in the latest 100-hour RPG, or, y'know, replaying The Witcher 3.
