Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is teasing a new design for Gotenks. Marketing for the movie has already confirmed new looks for multiple Dragon Ball characters, including Goten, Trunks, Piccolo, Gohan, and Pan. Of these, the characters to receive the most significant updates are of course Goten and Trunks.
For years, Goten and Trunks and their fusion form have maintained the same design, despite all the time that’s passed in-universe. All through Dragon Ball Super, the two young half-Saiyans kept the personalities and appearances that they had in Dragon Ball Z’s Buu Saga. Many consider it to be a problem that the Goten and Trunks – who are now in their teenage years – still look the same as they did when they were seven and eight years old respectively. Now, Dragon Ball Super is finally giving both a meaningful, canon update. Artwork for the movie has confirmed that the next time skip will depict them as their proper ages in the franchise.

This certainly feels like a hint that the two will use fusion to help Piccolo and Gohan fight the Red Ribbon Army’s androids. If that happens, Gotenks is guaranteed to get a new look. If Goten and Trunks are both visibly older, changes will naturally have to be made to Gotenks’ design.
Aside from a height increase, Gotenks’ hair will likely be updated to reflect what Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is doing with Trunks. In keeping with the anime’s major Future Trunks
