While Friezahas become a classic Dragon Ballvillain and one of the most iconic characters throughout the entire franchise, he has recently been surpassed by a newer villain who succeeded where Frieza so miserably failed. During the Dragon Ball Zera, Frieza was killed for good after Future Trunks sliced him to pieces. However, Frieza made his return in Dragon Ball Super, and while he was killed a second time by the Z-Fighters after he tried to conquer planet earth, he was once again brought back to life to help Dragon Ball’s heroes save the universe during the Tournament of Power. With his more permanent return to canon, Frieza has vowed to pick up right where he left off and conquer the universe, though it seems like he has already been shown up by a clearly more effective villain.
Fans were introduced to Frieza in Dragon Ball ZChapter 53 “Planet Namek, Cold and Dark” by Akira Toriyama. During that storyline, Frieza and his army have invaded Planet Namek in search of the wish-granting Dragon Balls so that Frieza can attain ultimate power. However, Frieza’s plans are foiled after the Z-Fighters show up on the planet and defeat his forces. In a last-ditch effort to achieve victory, Frieza challenges Goku to a final showdown, an iconic battle during which Goku reaches Super Saiyan for the first time. Much to the tyrant’s humiliating disappointment, Goku utterly destroys Frieza, cutting him in half and blasting him with one final burst of energy as the entire planet around him crumbles into nothing but bits of space rock.
