DoorDash is introducing new ways to rate, review, and discover restaurants in every neighborhood.
Open the updated food delivery app to find "most-liked" items, reviews, top 10 lists of popular spots, and "all-star" locations—as decided by local customers.
After ordering on DoorDash, customers can rate individual items by giving them a thumbs up or thumbs down. A restaurant's three highest-rated dishes are then displayed on the digital menu with a "most-liked" tag—helping to direct others to potential meal choices.
"With the launch of the Most Liked Items feature, we're saving consumers over 400,000 hours annually, reducing decision fatigue when deciding what to order," according to Helena Seo, head of design at DoorDash. Since the pilot began, US users have submitted more than 2.5 million item ratings per week, on average.
While most food delivery platforms eschew customer reviews, DoorDash is embracing them—hoping that "detailed feedback and recommendations" from the community will save users time and effort switching between multiple apps to research restaurants.
"Consumers are more confident in where and when they eat when they see reviews from their peers," the online food ordering firm said, citing recent research by BrightLocal. The company has received more than 7 million assessments since opening public reviews in November.
The move, however, is as much geared toward merchants and consumers. Thanks to new reviews and ratings, it's much easier to identify what people like to eat, adjust inventory accordingly, and optimize staff training.
