Bungie have released details on upcoming expansions for Destiny 2, the largest of which is The Final Shape, the conclusion of the Light and Dark saga that has been running since Destiny 1.
The Final Shape will find Guardians confronting The Witness, the big bad who has been pulling strings and weaving stories from the darkness since day one. Guardians will explore a mysterious new destination , The Pale Heart, located inside the Traveller.
Shaped by The Witness but also influenced by the history and journey of the Guardians themselves, The Pale Heart destination will feature nostalgic callbacks from throughout the history of the Light and Darkness Saga, including a version of the original Tower from Destiny. As the first linear destination in Destiny history, The Pale Heart will also gradually evolve.
Three new Super abilities and Aspects – Void for Titans, Solar for Warlocks, and Arc for Hunters – will be available, as well as new weapon subfamily that includes the Rocket Pistol Sidearm and a new Support Frame Auto Rifle that can deal damage while healing allies. Classic Weapons from Destiny 1 will return, and in case you missed the previous trailer, Cayde-6 is back, voiced once again by Nathan Fillion. There will also be one new enemy type, Subjugators, who can use Strand and Stasis.
I wasn’t particularly impressed with Lightfall as that expansion came with just one new enemy so just adding one more to The Final Shape is rather disappointing, there was a time when a Destiny 2 expansion came with a whole new race of enemies.
After the conclusion Bungie will be continuing to support the game with “Episodes”, the first of which will deal with the aftermath of Lightfall.
