Bungie has revealed a new Destiny 2 community event inspired by The Witcher. This new community event follows a crossover with CD Projekt Red’s hit franchise, which introduced several new cosmetics inspired by Geralt of Rivia that came with Season of the Wish. Crossovers are nothing new in Destiny 2, with Bungie introducing cosmetics based on other popular Sony titles like God of War and Horizon Forbidden West into the game, but this is the first time that one has resulted in a community event.
Like crossovers, community events in the first-person shooter are a regular occurrence aimed at banding the player population to work towards a common goal in order to earn a reward. Now, in what is one of Destiny 2’s longest seasons, Bungie has introduced a new community event to the game. In the most recent This Week in Destiny blog post, Bungie has challenged the community to slay 7,777,777 enemies with swords. The event, which started at 3 PM EST, does not seem to have an end date so far, with the developer only stating that it would start keeping a tally. As for the reward, Bungie has stated that it cannot pay players in coins, a reference to Jaskier’s catchy song from the first season of the Netflix Witcher adaptation, so instead, players will earn the brand-new Adventurous Spirit emblem.
The blog post also stated that Bungie will provide instructions on how players can redeem the emblem once the community has hit the goal. While contributing to this challenge, players who have not already earned the previous Witcher emblem in Destiny 2, Never Lost, Always Found, will have a chance to do so, as that cosmetic requires gamers to get 100 Sword kills in addition to 50 Solar Melee final blows.
