Destiny 2's Witch Queen expansion is praised by many for its overall design, approach, and story layout, with Savathun's story coming with satisfying reveals about the Hive and the Light. It also introduced a name many have come to fear since: The Witness. It is the being that pursues the Traveler and manipulates the Darkness, the pyramid ships, and more, and players will be facing it, it seems, come Destiny 2 Lightfall's release in February.
Lightfall will take players to the hidden Neptune city of Neomuna, populated by humans who escaped the Collapse and have evolved separately from those living in The Last City. What was clear from the Destiny 2 showcase of this expansion is that Neomuna is not like The Last City or any other location before it, especially the Witch Queen. According to game director Joe Blackburn and assistant general manager Dan McAuliffe during a recent interview with PC Gamer, these differences were intentional.

According to McAuliffe, one of the main reasons for Neomuna's cyberpunk design is to create separation from The Witch Queen: «Rather than give [players] another terrarian sort of environment, we asked what would be a really strong change of pace. Go up. Go modern. Go fabricated instead of grown.» The verticality of such a living, breathing city (which isn't something commonly seen in Destiny) plays well with the Destiny 2 Strand subclass, but a populated city is also something brand new for the universe.
