director Shawn Levy is promising fans the upcoming sequel will honor the legacy of Fox’s X-Men.
In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine, per IndieWire, Levy commented on how Deadpool 3 will explore the legacy and history of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Fox’s X-Men universe.
“Deadpool and Wolverine are iconic Marvel characters; more specifically, iconic Marvel-of-the-Fox-era characters,” Levy explained. “We’re not going to pretend: ‘Oh, we snap our fingers, and suddenly that Fox legacy doesn’t exist, and it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU.’ Fox also shaped Ryan’s career, Hugh’s career and my career. Levy was tapped to direct a third Deadpool movie, which will integrate the titular character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, in 2022. Ryan Reynolds will return to star in the film alongside Hugh Jackman, who is reprising his role as Wolverine.
Joining Reynolds and Jackman are Morena Baccarin as Vanesa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter.
Emma Corrin has also been cast as the lead villain in the film, which is rumored to be Cassandra Nova, while Matthew Macfadyen is playing an undisclosed character and Jennifer Garner has been confirmed to reprise her role as Elektra Natchios in the movie. Rumors have appeared online suggesting Channing Tatum as Gambit and Ian McKellen as Magneto, among others, could also be in the film.
