Launching around nine years after it was originally announced, Dead Island 2 has got off to a good start, with publisher Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studios announcing that the game has surpassed one million copies sold within its first three days on sale.
Obviously that’s a far cry short of a Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto launch, but considering the amount of time that has passed and the chopping and changing over development duties, this shows that there’s still plenty of appetite for this genre and series. It’s certainly a much healthier start that Deep Silver’s last major launch, Saints Row, which took around two months to reach 1 million players.
Deep Silver also shared the following Dead Island 2 gameplay statistics, which included:
The nice thing about these numbers is that you simply need to lop off the ‘million’ from each stat to figure out what the average player has experienced. On average players have sunk in 11 hours play time, died 28 times and so on.
The game is a solid return for the zombie smashing series, as I wrote in our Dead Island 2 review, “Dead Island 2 does a great job of reanimating this dormant zombie-battling series, with the gore-filled combat and excessive weaponry that goes well with the oversaturated LA setting. It’s an enjoyable romp, but at the same time, ironically feels like it’s playing it safe.”
Dead Island 2 came out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store on on 21st April.
