DC's new Superman proves the DCEU could still be saved if a certain character is brought into the franchise — and there's still plenty of time for this four-legged friend to make an appearance. The famous Krypto the Superdog is a long-running supporting character in the Superman franchise and fiercely loyal ally of the Man of Steel. In Superman: Son of Kal-El #12, Krypto proves his usefulness to the story — and also a fair amount of drama.
The Superman: Son of Kal-El series revolves around Jonathan Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Earth's new Superman. While his father is away in space (in reality, captured and imprisoned on Warworld), Jonathan solves the problems of the 21st century by standing up to corporations, fighting natural disasters and climate change, and marching arm-in-arm with protesters and activists. He's already made plenty of friends and a new, terrifying enemy: President Bendix, the iron-willed ruler of the island nation of Gamorra.

In Superman: Son of Kal-El #12, written by Tom Taylor with art by Cian Tormey and Ruairi Coleman, Superman and his boyfriend Jay Nakamura discover a conspiracy involving President Bendix and Mr. Henderson, a United States Senator. Senator Henderson arranged for the release of a superhero from prison, who subsequently attacked and nearly killed Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Senator protests his involvement and begins to say that he was acting against his own will when Krypto begins to growl and his eyes glow bright red. Seconds later, Krypto blasts the senator against the wall of the US Capitol building's rotunda using his heat vision.
