Mordenkainen Presents: Multiverse of Monsters will update many of the optional playable races in Dungeons & Dragons and will make them stronger than they were before. Multiverse of Monsters is a D&D book that will be included in the D&D Rules Expansion Gift Set on January 25, before receiving its own standalone release later in the year on May 17.
Fans have noticed a gradual power creep with the races in Dungeons and Dragons, which is best exemplified with the improvements made to the dragonborn race in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons. The dragonborn went from being a race that was often homebrewed to make them stronger, to receiving new special abilities that make them better additions to parties. Rather than possessing passive abilities that are situational, like the racial features of the dwarf race, it has become more common for D&D races to receive special abilities that can be activated in battle.

Multiverse of Monsters will feature updated versions of over thirty playable races that have appeared in previous D&D books, such as Volo's Guide to Monsters. D&D Principal Rules Designer Jeremy Crawford revealed in a recent press event for Multiverse of Monsters that many of the returning monsters are stronger than their original versions. This is helped with the benefit of hindsight, as all of the races throughout the history of the game were compared, and it was determined that some of them needed to be brought up in terms of usefulness.
One way in which all monsters have changed is that they now use the D&D floating racial stat bonuses introduced in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. This means that all characters will choose a +2 and a +1 to add to their stats during character
