You may have defeated Unknown Alpha in the last level, but Crystar has a surprise for you - Unknown Beta. This is the second part of a three-part, dog-based encounter. This mutant mongrel comes with a few mechanics that also pervade his prerequisite area, and this makes him a tad more dangerous than his wet-wipe counterpart.

Unknown Beta forces you into a scrap with only Rei. To make matters worse, her Guardian Heraclitus is nowhere to be found. This is a one-on-one duel, and Rei is far from full power. Unfortunately, like the previous three fights, this boss is very much a narratively driven encounter that doesn’t offer too much of a challenge - even if he is a step-up from his Alpha kin.
Like with Unknown Alpha, Unknown Beta only has two attacks - a short-ranged bite and an ATK buff. Unknown Beta will spend most of the fight bounding after you before pausing to initiate his bite wind-up. Unknown Beta suffers from the same issues as his brother - short-range and obvious tells.
Unknown Beta can buff his attack by remaining stationary for a moment and roaring. This buff makes his bite a bit more dangerous. This is important to note, as Unknown Beta is much more likely to catch you due to your character limitations.
Still, Unknown Beta has no dash or charge maneuvers, so his mobility is hampered. If you can spot his wind up, you should be able to avoid most - if not all - of his damage.
The gimmick here is that you can only use Rei. You at least had Nanana to fall back on when you fought Unknown Alpha. Since you only have Rei, you are forced to engage with Unknown Beta in melee as Rei’s ranged offerings, whilst good, aren’t going to burn Unknown Beta down.
