Cricket 24 had been due in June, but perhaps publisher Nacon is feeling generous after England’s unfortunate loss at Edgbaston this week – after all, we can’t imagine anyone other than the Aussies wants to even think about cricket right now. The game will instead arrive on 5th October, then – a pretty hearty delay on its intended release window.
Big Ant Studios is really bigging this one up, though, promising it’s the culmination of a decade of development. To be fair, Cricket 22 was a pretty good effort, and if it can significantly build on the foundations of that then we could be looking at a robust sporting sim here. It’ll feature more licensed content than ever before, and full crossplay across consoles.
“We can’t wait for cricket fans to be able to experience and play Cricket 24, leading their favourite Test, One Day, or T20 team to victory in the most realistic cricket video game ever made,” Big Ant Studios boss Ross Symons said. “After a decade of experience the Big Ant Studios team are the leading cricket video game developers in the world. We are really excited to offer our fans Cricket 24 this October, a cricket game with greater immersion and depth than any that have come before it.”
Like its predecessor there will be a full campaign where you rise up the cricket ranks, but you’ll have more control over your destiny than in the previous release. The developer’s also made improvements to the fielding gameplay, which was a real quick part of Cricket 22 and definitely needed the extra attention.
