A Con Air sequel with Nic Cage should be set in outer space, claims director Simon West, who helmed the original 1997 action thriller. The plot of Con Air followed Army Ranger Cameron Poe who, following a 10-year prison sentence for an accidental killing, boards a prisoner transport plane to Alabama, only to be called into action when the inmates take control of the plane. The movie grossed $224 million against a budget of just $75 million, and is widely regarded as a cult classic.
Cage enjoyed a career peak around the time of Con Air, which was preceded by hit Michael Bay movie The Rock (1996), and was followed by the John Woo action classic Face/Off (1997). English director West, meanwhile, made his feature film debut with Con Air, and has gone on to direct several successful movies since, including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The Expendable 2. After enjoying recent success in Chinese cinema, with action-disaster film Skyfire, and the upcoming The Legend Hunters, West sat down to talk about the possibility of bringing back Cameron Poe.
