A new competitive multiplayer VR game is in the works from developer Polyarc. Best known for its VR puzzle platformer Moss and its sequel, Moss Book II. The new game in development will be announced soon, but they’re already taking signups for playtests.
Those playtests are set to happen the weekend of April 14-16th, and it’s open to those with a Meta Quest 2. This will be the only supported platform for this test, but they may have other supported ones in future tests. The team is still tight-lipped on just what this new game will be like, but there are some teaser images accompanying the press release announcing this new project. From those images, we can see a familiar style, if you have played Moss and know Polyarc’s work.
Polyarc continues with faith in VR, and the area of competitive multiplayer in VR has plenty of room to grow. According to CEO Tam Armstrong, in the announcement release, “We are happy to see that the audience for VR continues to grow, now counting in the tens of millions of players, with more user-friendly and accessible headsets being released every year”.
In creating successful and well-regarded games like Moss, and in being patient enough to have a VR audience grow enough to support competitive multiplayer. When it comes to online games, especially with competitive ones, having an active playerbase matters. This project was, to some degree, in the works since the company was founded back in 2015.
