HBO Max will air new series The Ledger, staring Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña. Maridueña is best known for his role as Miguel inCobra Kai, the television series which follows the later lives of grown-up The Karate Kid characters and rivals, Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka). The Ledger follows Gabriel (played by Maridueña), a young nomad and vigilante who travels from town to town trying to fix the wrongdoings of his dangerous mentor.
According to Variety, HBO Max has now picked up The Ledger. The action series will feature 30-minute episodes written by Juan Carlos Coto, the former writer for the television series Nikita. Coto will also executive produce the series alongside Maridueña, Will Packer of Will Packer Media, and Brandon Guzmán of Valor Entertainment Group.

Maridueña is no stranger to a story that involves an imperfect mentor, as his role in Cobra Kai is as the trainee of the somewhat redeemed original The Karate Kid villain, Johnny Lawrence, in his new dojo. What's more, Maridueña is also quite adept at learning choreography for elaborate fight sequences from his time on Cobra Kai. It's more than likely that this fight sequence training will come in handy when filming on the action-packed The Ledger eventually gets underway. Maridueña’s performance, along with Coto's writing, will hopefully be enough to transform The Ledger into an action series that holds the attention of an audience bombarded with increasingly more streaming options when it lands on HBO Max.
