The ending of the season 4 finale revealed that Miguel’s next journey in the Netflix series will involve a trip to Mexico City, where he hopes to find his father. Cobra Kai spending time in Mexico is a narrative decision that will impact more than just one of the show’s main characters. Johnny already confirmed that he’ll be taking it upon himself to find Miguel and bring him back home. Johnny going on a search for Miguel in Mexico is sure to lead to a host of new problems, not the least of which being Miguel’s father, who has been described as a dangerous criminal. Returning to the Valley with Miguel in tow is unlikely to be easy. After all, Miguel may refuse to go anywhere until he finishes what he set out to do.

Given the Cobra Kai season 4 finale’s setup, it makes sense that the upcoming Mexico storyline won’t be wrapped up in the season 5 premiere. The idea of Cobra Kai doing a multi-episode story with Eagle Fang’s sensei in another country raises questions about what the show will do with his students. Since Johnny won’t be around, the show may use this as an opportunity to complete the merge between the Eagle Fang and Miyagi-do dojos. Miguel and Daniel (Ralph Macchio) eventually chose to remain apart due to their contrasting approaches to karate, but the resolutions reached in the tournament opened the door for a second try, which could very well happen in season 5.
