The release of Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 has introduced a lot of new theories and evidence about the game's lore. While there are a lot of theories and speculations going around, the game pretty much confirms a fact about the chapter's main antagonist Mommy Long Legs. Her true name is Marie Payne, and the story behind her transformation into Mommy Long Legs is pretty interesting.

Poppy Playtime's first chapter did a good job of subtlely implying that Playtime Co. had much more sinister things going on behind the scenes. It was pretty much a universally accepted theory that people were being experimented on to turn them into live toys. And as Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 implies, this all stemmed from Elliot Ludwig wanting to revive the daughter that he lost.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2's main antagonist, Mommy Long Legs, is incredibly hostile toward the player. Unlike Huggy Wuggy, she received her own voice lines and was able to show her anger and resentment through spoken dialog. Players will learn after finding a collectible inside Chapter 2 that this hostility comes from Mommy Long Legs in Poppy Playtime being the result of an experiment of Playtime Co.
Players are able to find a collectible note in Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 called «Transfer Request.» This Transfer Request deems Mommy Long Legs as «Experiment 1222,» and that the subject of this experiment is a woman by the name of Marie Payne. The request goes on to detail how Mommy Long Legs is growing increasingly hostile toward employees of Playtime Co. but is perfectly kind and harmless toward the children found there.
