Map of the Moon? Yes! China has released the most detailed map of the Moon ever. Well, this is not the first time when someone has mapped the geography of the Moon in detail. Earlier in 2020, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Astrogeology Science Centre released the map on a scale of 1:5,000,000. But this new comprehensive geological map of the moon is said to be the most detailed map to date. Due to its detailing, it is expected to make vital contributions to human knowledge about the closest celestial object to Earth.

What do these maps show? Geologic maps of the Moon contain detailed information about the lunar crust's geologic strata, structural features, lithologies, and chronology, as well as the evolution of the lunar crust as a result of seismic processes, catastrophic impacts, and volcanic activity. The Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the China University of Geosciences, the Chinese Academy of Geological Science, and Shandong University, has led the initiative to create the world's most detailed map of the moon.

China has released a new complete geological map of the moon at a size of 1:2,500,000. It's the most detailed moon map we've seen so far, which shows 12,341 impact craters, 81 impact basins, 17 rock types, and 14 different types of structures on the moon, offering a wealth of information about the moon's geology and evolution. An updated lunar time scale is used in this map to better reflect the dynamic evolution of the Moon. It is believed that it will make a significant contribution to lunar scientific research, exploration, and landing site selection.
