Warning: spoilers ahead for Chainsaw Man chapter 99!
Having moved away from Denji following the series' return, the second part of Chainsaw Man has nevertheless recreated his relationship with the devil Pochita. However, while unwilling host Asa Mitaka is afflicted with the War Devil, the series has increased the sense of interaction between the two, fixing an issue with its first half's mascot devil.
Given Pochita was the reason Denji could transform into the eponymous Chainsaw Man, it was shocking how little the Chainsaw Devil actually appeared throughout the first 97 chapters of the manga. Readers didn't just want to see more Pochita because of how incredibly cute he is, but because Pochita wanted to hear more about Denji's dreams as payment for saving his life, setting up a dynamic that promised deep character exploration (but never actually paid it off.) It initially appeared as though part two of the manga would explore Mitaka and her version of Pochita, the War Devil, similar to Denji and his devil's relationship. But mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto dashes those assumptions in chapter 99 of Chainsaw Man. The War Devil not only constantly threatens and orders Mitaka what to do next, but the devil both appears beside and even makes physical contact with her by hijacking Mitaka's body. It's because of the War Devil's persistent desire to communicate with Mitaka that the poor human can't ask other devil hunters for help and why she's joining the school's devil hunting club to find Denji.
