Casio launched a new, limited-edition G-Shock wristwatch that's hard to miss thanks to the NASA-inspired bright orange body and strap.
As CollectSpace reports(Opens in a new window), the G-Shock GWM5610NASA4 is styled using the same iconic orange of the "pumpkin suits" worn by astronauts in flight. This shade of orange has been used by NASA for its Launch Entry Suit (LES)(Opens in a new window) since 1988, and few would fail to associate the color with the space agency.
As well as the watch being extremely bright and therefore very hard to lose, there's a NASA logo and "National Aeronautics and Space Administration" laser-printed on to the strap. The band loop is adorned with the American flag, there's a special case back engraving of an astronaut, and the dark black dial of the watch is meant to represent the suit helmet's black visor. As you can see from the image above, the packaging is "inspired by the metal launch pad bridge that connects to the orbiter."
The GWM5610NASA4 includes the standard features of other G-Shock models, including a shock-resistant structure and 20-bar water resistance, but there's some additional functionality, too. Casio opted to use Radio-controller Multi Band 6 timekeeping, Tough Solar (solar powered), World time for 48 cities, and five daily alarms.
As you'd expected for any limited-edition watch, this NASA-inspired G-Shock is not cheap, but also not overly expensive compared to other G-Shock models. Casio will be selling the GWM5610NASA4 for a limited period of time direct from its website for $170(Opens in a new window).
