Nate Mitchell received the first one-on-one date from Gabby Windey on The Bachelorette season 19, and he now reveals why, after the date, he only wanted to pursue Gabby rather than try to get to know her co-Bachelorette Rachel Recchia as well. Nate, a 33-year-old electrical engineer from Chicago, Illinois, impressed Bachelor Nation with his sensitive and mature personality. Even before his date with Gabby, he was a hero to the women unbeknownst to them, when he defended them against comments made by Chris Austin. Chris told some of the other men that if he slept with one of the women in the Fantasy Suite, then he would expect that she would not sleep with anyone else. Nate told Chris that his «preconditions to love» were«the form of control that a lot of men just don't realize that they do that damages good women.»
Nate then went on Gabby's first one-on-one date of the Bachelorette season. They shared their first kiss, which Nate described as «magical.» They rode in a helicopter and spent time in a hot tub together. At dinner, they opened up to each other about their families, and Nate told Gabby all about his 6-year-old daughter who he said is the biggest part of him. He described her as the human form of coffee and said that she is «a little me.» Nate said, «I'm a girl dad, 1000%.» Nate's love for his daughter brought Gabby to tears as she explained that, although she is close to her father, she and her mother do not have a close relationship. She told him that this has made her who she is today. Gabby was so impressed by Nate's maturity and ability to have fun. They had a great connection, so she gave him her rose on the date.
