As Marvel's Judgment Day event nears, the fate of Earth will be decided as the planet's heroes are tested, and it seems Captain Marvel will be forced to answer to her mother, Mari-Ell. The event will see the X-Men and Eternals go to war with the Avengers caught in the middle, kick-starting some kind of reckoning with the Celestials.
As one of the key members of the Avengers, Captain Marvel is destined to be featured as a key focal point in this storyline. However, stopping an intergalactic battle between two of the universe's most powerful teams is going to be the least of her problems. It seems that as Marvel's heroes answer for the actions of their past, Carol Danvers will face a more personal interrogator than most.

According to Popverse, Carol Danver's mother Mari-Ell (aka Marie Danvers) will be making an unexpected return to the Marvel Universe in Captain Marvel #42 by Kelly Thompson and Andrea Di Vito. The issue's synopsis confirms that Judgment Day «determiners whether Earth lives or dies,» and that Captain Marvel and her sister Lauri-Ell will be tasked with proving their worth as heroes when an «unexpected new player emerges.» It seems that Mari-Ell will play a pivotal role in the judgment rendered over Carol and, by extension, the planet itself.
