Capcom has officially announced Street Fighter 6, following the conclusion of a week-long teaser campaign held to coincide with its official esports tournament.
“Get ready, Fighters: the future of fighting games is on the way,” Capcom said. “Today, at the Capcom Pro Tour 2021 Season Final, we shared a glimpse of what’s on the horizon: Street Fighter 6.
“We know you’re hungry for more details (and we’re just as eager to share them), but we’re gonna have to keep you guessing just a little longer. Look out for more Street Fighter 6 news coming summer 2022.”
There’s currently no indication of which platforms the game will release on. You can watch the first Street Fighter 6 trailer below:
On Monday Capcom also announced Capcom Fighting Collection, a ten-game compilation featuring classic games from the Darkstaslkers and Vampire Savior series, some of which have never been released in the west.
The company also announced it will release one more balance update for Street Fighter V in March.
Street Fighter series celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. The first Street Fighter was released in arcades in August 1987, but it was Street Fighter II, released in 1991, that revolutionised the one-on-one fighting game genre and established many of its rules going forward.
The most recent game in the series, Street Fighter V, was released in 2016 in arcades and on PS4 and PC. it was updated to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in 2017, then again to Street Fighter V: Champion Edition in 2020.
Capcom has continued to update Street Fighter V with five separate seasons of content, with over 2000 individual DLC items released to date
