The showrunners of HBO’s Hacks season 2 open up about the series, teasing story details for the highly anticipated upcoming season. Created by Broad City alums Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, the dark comedy follows two female comedians in opposite stages of their careers. Jean Smart stars as Deborah Vance, a sharp-tongued Las Vegas comedy diva, and Hannah Einbender plays Ava, Vance’s acerbic 25-year-old comedy writing assistant.

Over the course of the first season, their generational and attitudinal clashes make way for genuine affection. Hacks has picked up a number of accolades, includingPrimetime Emmy Awards for writing, directing, and for Jean Smart, Outstanding Lead Actress, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series.
