The big day So Elden Ring has one of the highest Metacritic scores ever, no-one seems to have a bad word to say about it, and FromSoftware’s reputation is secured as one of the best developers ever. Sounds like a bit of a result for everyone, including the fact that it’s Friday now (by the time you read this) and I get to play it all weekend!
I’m sure I’ll be punished for my excitement but I’m loving all the big name games coming out at the moment. This is just the time of year you want for settling down to an epic new game and, as others have said, I hope this becomes the norm from now on.
I’ve played and beaten all the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne and I can assure you I am not an especially skilled player. So anyone that hasn’t experience a From game before I can definitely recommend them. They’re hard but they’re not impossible and that’s the point. Not being patronised by constantly being told what to do, while beating enemies that you could blow over with a feather, is a breath of fresh air and I hope more developers are inspired to make their games similarly challenging.Focus
Just say no With all the talk of Elden Ring it’s useful to remind folks that not every game has to be for them. It’s easy to feel the FOMO as the hype machine kicks in, but as a gaming dad with limited time I’ve no interest in a punishingly difficult open world that’s going to require significant effort. It doesn’t make me less of a gamer, and I’m happy that a game exists that meets those needs for others.
