Capcom classic arcade shoot ’em up 1942 gets a limited edition $385 watch
Capcom and watch manufacturer AVI-8 have collaborated to release a pair of special edition watches based on arcade game 1942.
Released in 1984, Capcom’s arcade title was one of the most popular examples of the vertical scrolling shoot ’em up genre at the time.
The game was eventually ported to the NES, where it sold over 1 million copies.
The new watch is calledthe AVI-8 X Capcom 1942 Flyboy Automatic Limited Edition, and comes in two designs.
The Blue Ace edition costs $365 / £348 and has a stainless steel band with a blue nylon strap.
The slightly more expensive Blace Ace edition, meanwhile, costs $385 / £367 and has a black stainless steel band with a black nylon strap.
Each colour is limited to 300 pieces, after which no more will be manufactured.

Both designs feature a small sprite of the protagonist’s plane from 1942 attached to the seconds hand.
“Each watch features an impressive high specification build coupled with an attention to detail that exhibits the watch and the world within the 1942 game with a commitment to design unlike any other timepiece you have ever owned”, AVI-8’s promotional blurb reads.
Last month Capcom launched Capcom Town, a new website celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary.
Billed by Capcom as “the ultimate digital tourist destination”, Capcom Town will be updated regularly with new features.
At launch, the site already includes a number of areas, including a Retro Games section, a Museum, a ‘Merch Factory’ where players can download Capcom-themed Twitter icons and pages dedicated to Capcom’s CEO and COO, giving history on the company.
