Canon Launches a Couple of Compact EOS R-Series Cameras
Canon has unveiled two new EOS R-series mirrorless cameras, with one aimed at content creators and the other at anyone who wants better vacation photos. They are the first EOS R-series models to use a smaller size APS-C imaging sensor and are complimented with a couple of new camera lenses from Canon, too.
The EOS R7(Opens in a new window) is aimed at anyone wishing to "upgrade" their travel and vacation photos. It comes equiped with a 32 million pixels APS-C size image sensor, dual memory card slots, full-width 4K video recording at 60p, up to 30fps with electronic shutter, in-body image stabilization, and is dust and moisture resistant.
The EOS R10(Opens in a new window) is aimed squarely at content creators who want to capture action videos or sports and wildlife images. It uses a 24 million pixels APS-C size image sensor, but is more limited on the feature set than the R7 (which is also reflected in the price).
Both cameras include autofocus with subject detection inherited from the EOS R3, up to 15fps mechanical shutter, full-width 4K video recording at 30p and 24p (only the R7 gets 60p), are capable of recording clips of over 30 minutes, and count as the first Canon APS-C cameras with up to 7.0 stops Coordinated Image Stabilization.
A couple of new RF-S lenses are also being released that are optimized for the smaller APS-C sensor. They are the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM and RF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM, providing an 18-45mm focal length (field of view equivalent to 29-72mm lens coverage on a full frame), and 18-150mm focal length (field of view equivalent to 29-240mm) respectively.
