The 2015 Marvel Comics event Secret Wars brought together so many alternate worlds and universes that even DC Comics' Superman made a hidden appearance in the Multiverse-shattering crossover. The epic clash of realities allowed writers and artists to revisit many classic storylines like Civil War, Planet Hulk and Days of Future Past. But one tiny detail many fans may not have noticed also involved a meeting between the Man of Steel and Spider-Man.
The nine-issue miniseries Secret Wars by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić was the culmination of a years-long storyline that Hickman had begun during his run on Avengers and New Avengers. After alternate Earths begin crashing into each other in events known as Incursions, entire universes are wiped out. Marvel's Illuminati races to stop the Incursions before their main Earth-616 reality is destroyed. In the end, every reality in Marvel's Multiverse is annihilated, with bits of different realities surviving on the patchwork world known as Battleworld. To highlight the gravity of the event, most Marvel Comics titles were paused or canceled for a period of a few months, and the Ultimate Marvel Universe was brought to a complete end.

Of all the worlds that fans might have hoped to see return in the crossover, few likely expected Earth-7642 to be among them. Otherwise known as Crossover Earth, this is the reality established in the very first Marvel and DC crossover: the 1976 one-shot Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru.
