Netflix's upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation is rumored to have the title Horizon: 2047,suggesting a lot about the show's plot based on the existing timeline established in the games. The series, which will be based on the popular Horizon video games, will reportedly switch between Aloy's timeline, established in Horizon Zero Dawn as the far future, and a time when humanity is in the process of its fall. Originally, the title was reported as Horizon: 2074, but given that the Earth is mostly a barren rock by that point in the established timeline, the title is now reported to be Horizon: 2047, tying it to a year with much more potential significance in the Horizon timeline.
Much of the specifics of that past in Horizon are still shrouded in mystery. Big reveals about significant events come by way of the main storyline in the games, and smaller events tend to be revealed through in-game collectibles and data points. The rough timeline is clear: around 2048, Faro Automated Solutions (FAS) entered into its first military contracts and began producing robots for war purposes. This would ultimately lead to the destruction of all biomass on the planet.

None of FAS's decisions would have been made overnight.
