When Apple released the iPhone X, its first device with a notch, it changed icons on the status bar — the clock moved from left to right, and some were removed entirely like the battery percentage icon. The iPhone 13 series comes with a smaller notch but does the newly reclaimed space bring back the battery percentage icon?
The notch on the iPhones shrunk for the first time in four years when Apple announced the iPhone 13 series last year. The width of the notch was reduced by 20 percent, thanks to a redesign of the layout of the TrueDepth camera system. However, the notch digs slightly deeper into the screen. Apple is expected to shrink the notch to a small hole further and a pill when the iPhone 14 series launches later this year.

While the smaller notch on the iPhone 13 series should allow for an extra icon to sit in the status bar, unfortunately, that isn't the case. The clock is still on the left, while the right side of the notch retains the network icon, Wi-Fi icon and battery icon, but not the battery percentage icon. According to Apple, users that want to check how much battery they have left on iPhones with Face ID, including the iPhone 13, will have to swipe down the top right corner of the screen to see the battery percentage icon in Control Center.
Swiping down might be the easiest way to see the exact amount of battery left, but there is another way to keep an eye on the battery percentage — Widgets. There is a Batteries widget that users can add to their Home Screen or Today View to see their phone's battery percentage.
