Bungie Apologises for Its Widespread Destiny 2 DLC Launch Issues | Push Square
No online game or update will ever roll out completely flawlessly, but as the pivotal final chapter in its story released just yesterday, the Destiny 2 servers were essentially brought to their knees. New expansion The Final Shape is designed to be a sort of conclusion to the current narrative saga, so the surge of interest to see how the story ends caused a lot of players to be stuck at the login screen, unable to find a slot in the overwhelmed servers.
Even when they were able to log in and start the new campaign, further problems resulted in some being kicked from the game during a mission and missing out on important plot cutscenes. Bungie took to Twitter to explain the situation, saying the login errors were related to «failures in our load balancer machines. We were forced to route traffic around them and partially mitigated this issue within 2 hours of launch.»
Later on, it picked up on other specific errors, some of which were immediately resolved and others that still persist now. «Currant errors causing players to get kicked out of activities started at around 3:00 p.m. (PT) and remains our highest priority issue to resolve. We believe we have identified the issue, and will be doing rolling server restarts soon to attempt to resolve this,» the developer said seven hours ago.
Bungie has suggested replaying missions to see the cutscenes players might have missed, but some — such as popular streamer Datto — have livestreamed themselves catching up on the clips via YouTube uploads. A comical situation, but the developer apologises for the errors: «We built The Final Shape to be an exciting, cathartic, story-driven adventure for everyone to enjoy. We’re truly sorry if connection issues and instability is getting in the way of that experience, and we promise to keep working until these issues are resolved.»
