From now until next Thursday at 11 AM ET, you can stop by the Epic Games Store to pick up Windbound for free. But those who have no interest in Windbound may see next week’s free offer of Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons as more palatable. Released back in 2013, the PC version of Brothers received an impressively high Metascore of 90 on Metacritic, with reviewers praising the game’s emotional storytelling in particular. Obtaining such a critically acclaimed game for free should be a no-brainer for many players, but you can only take advantage of this offer from February 17 to February 24.
From the mind of Swedish-Lebanese filmmaker Josef Fares, Brothers places players within the shoes of, as the title would suggest, two brothers embarking “on an epic fairy tale journey.” They go on this quest primarily to help their father, who has become fatally ill, and they can only cure him by finding “the ‘Water of Life.'” To obtain this cure, both brothers have to work together and compensate for each other’s weaknesses. As the Epic Games Store description puts it, “they must be… Brothers.”
As for the gameplay, the description labels it as “co-op play in single player mode.” This refers to the fact that players control both brothers at the same time through the use of the two analog sticks, a unique control setup that allows for some interesting puzzle-solving scenarios. Along the way, players will come across a variety of locations, and even a few bosses to tackle, which seems unusual for a more cerebral game such as this one.
All in all, next week’s free offer of Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons on the Epic Games Store is a fantastic opportunity for players to catch up on a well-received game that they might have missed. The Epic Games
