Although Bridgerton season 2 solved a number of unanswered questions, the series still completely ignored the biggest mystery about Simon from season 1. While Bridgerton season 1 documented the love story of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, Regé-Jean Page’s character was entirely absent from season 2. Granted, the focus of the series shifted away from the Duke and Duchess of Hastings to the romance of Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, but season 2 still inexplicably refused to acknowledge the most significant mystery about its previous male lead.
As Bridgerton’s focus continues to stray from Daphne and Simon while moving toward the love stories of the remaining Bridgerton siblings, it seems increasingly unlikely that the leftover questions about Simon’s past will be answered. Bridgerton season 1 featured numerous flashbacks to the abuse and neglect Simon was subjected to by his father, Lord Hastings, after the death of his mother. Lord Hastings was revealed to be a cruel man who rejected Simon due to his stutter, with Lady Danbury stepping in as Simon’s only true caretaker to guide his education and development into a confident man of high society.

Simon’s backstory with his father was just as important to Bridgerton season 1 as Daphne’s family history, but as Daphne’s background continues to be hashed out in future seasons through her siblings, Simon’s past largely remains a mystery.
