Bridgerton breakout star Regé-Jean Page reveals he wouldn't mind if they recast his character for future seasons. The Netflix romance series, which is set in Regency era England, is based on the novels of the same name by Julia Quinn. Season 1, which adapted the 2000 book The Duke and I, followed the steamy exploits of Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the nine siblings in the Bridgerton family. She fell in love with the handsome and roguish Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Page), while attempting to fake a relationship, and naturally they ended up getting married by the Bridgerton season 1 ending.
Just like the source novels, each season of Bridgerton follows a new sibling in their own romantic travails. Season 2, which premiered earlier this year, followed eldest son Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) as he entered into a torrid love triangle with sisters Kate (Simone Ashley) and Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran). Although Daphne continues to be a recurring character in the series, appearing at the Bridgerton estate to offer romantic guidance, Page did not return to the role that made him a star. Simon and Daphne Basset are still happily married in-canon, but she merely refers to her offscreen married life with her husband, keeping Page offscreen as the actor moved on to other projects like the upcoming Netflix action movie The Gray Man.
