Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page reflects on his character Simon Basset, hilariously calling the Duke a "Regency f**kboy." Based on Julia Quinn's series of novels, Bridgerton shot to prominence when it was first released back in 2020, quickly breaking major records for its streaming home of Netflix. Telling the story of the Bridgertons, a wealthy family living in Regency-era London, Bridgerton starred Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton opposite Page's Duke of Hastings, with season 1 having leaned heavily on the much-loved 'fake romance' trope, the pair ultimately falling for one another as the season progressed.
Following a number of smaller roles, Bridgerton saw Page propelled into the spotlight after viewers were immediately taken with the Duke's devilish charm. Season 1 explored Simon's disinterest in marriage and starting a family, in contrast to Daphne, who eagerly sought to find her perfect "love match." After their story came to a happy ending in season 1, many were devastated by the news that Page would not be returning for season 2, which hit screens earlier this year, with the actor himself having also recently quelled all hopes for any future returns in upcoming Bridgerton seasons.

During a recent interview with Variety, Page discusses his Bridgerton character and has some choice words for the Duke and his actions throughout season 1. The actor calls Simon "kind of horrific," explaining how the character's redemption arc can often lead people to forget some of his previous, flawed moments. Page goes on to jokingly refer to Simon as a "Regency f**kboy" before discussing how Simon's redemption was ultimately a brave choice for the ending.
