Marvel Studios' Blade movie must be a Marvel Cinematic Universe prequel so it can answer four big mysteries. Details on Mahershala Ali's solo Blade movie have been scarce ever since the project was announced in 2019. The film is directed by Bassam Tariq and written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, but story details have yet to be revealed. Audiences are more curious than ever to see the daywalker in the MCU following his surprise appearance–or rather, off-screen dialogue–in Eternals' post-credits scene. The voice-only role raised several questions about Blade's MCU history, leading to more speculation about what exactly the solo movie will contain — and where it will be set.
Thanks to Blade's long lifespan as a half-vampire, there has been a suggestion that this could be the MCU's next prequel movie. Marvel Studios has become more comfortable exploring the past in recent years. Captain America: The First Avenger was the only period piece entry in the shared universe for the longest time, but Captain Marvel's 1995 setting offered a new look at the MCU while establishing Carol Danvers. Phase 4 has continued to re-explore the past in various ways. Black Widow was entirely set during the events of Captain America: Civil War and changed how audiences saw certain events. Meanwhile, Eternals' story spanned 7,000 years to establish the Eternals' history with Earth. As Marvel continues to add more context to the past while pushing the main storyline forward, Blade is now viewed as a prime candidate to be the next MCU prequel.
